  • The 2017 Delaware Valley High School Commencement took place on Friday, June 16th 2017. Despite a few sprinkles of rain from threatening dark clouds the graduation ceremony went on as scheduled. Families, friends and faculty gathered at the Westfall Township school to congratulate the graduates on their accomplishment and to wish them well in the next phase of their lives.

  • The Fifty-Eighth Commencement Exercises at Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta Township, New Jersey took place on Friday, June 9th 2017. School faculty, family and friends gathered to witness the presentation of diplomas and to congratulate graduates. The Most Reverend Arthur J. Serratelli, Presiding Bishop of the Diocese of Paterson, New Jersey presented diplomas. Student speakers were Brendan Dillon and Julianne Sturm. The valedictorians were Jacob Cooper, Anna Campbell and Rebecca Wiltshire.

Highlights of the Sussex County Community College 30th Commencement

  • The Sussex County Community College 30th Commencement took place on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. The college located in Newton, New Jersey celebrated a new class of graduates. A total of 465 students are scheduled to graduate this school year. At Wednesday evenings ceremony 242 students participated. The students include those who graduated on Wednesday, in January of this year and those who applied to graduate in August. The keynote speaker was Richard A. Levao, president of Bloomfield College in Essex County, New Jersey. Student Spokesperson Amelia Macchietto (A.A. Liberal Arts) of Newton, N.J. also gave a speech. Sussex County Freeholder Director Carl F. Lazzaro was among several other speakers who participated. The ceremony began at 6:00 p.m. and ended at 8:00 p.m. on the Connor Green area of the campus.

Kittatinny Cougars Lose to High Point Wildcats on the Court

  • High Point Regional High School (Sussex, N.J.) defeated Kittatinny Regional High School (Hampton Township, N.J.) in girls varsity basketball on Thursday, January 5, 2017. The final score was 54-34. The game took place at High Point Regional High School. High Point Wildcat Margo Peterson scored a game high 28 points. Peterson also made seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal. Casey Langenbach and Emily Mulvoy contributed 10 points apiece for High Point. Langenbach also grabbed nine rebounds. Emma Zazzali scored nine points, including two 3-pointers for Kittatinny. Kelly Insalaco and Olivia Manser contributed eight points each for Kittatinny. Team Records: High Point Wildcats 7-2. Kittatinny Cougars 6-1.

  • Walnut Ridge Eagle Scout Project - Vernon, N.J. - 09/17/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • Dominic D'Arco, a Vernon Township High School senior, is shown raking the base for the flagpole area paving project at Walnut Ridge Primary School during the school’s Fall Harvest Open House on Saturday. • Walnut Ridge benefits from Eagle Scout’s work • VERNON — On Saturday while Walnut Ridge Primary School held its annual Fall Harvest Open House, Dominic D'Arco, a Vernon Township High School senior was busy at work in front of the school. His project to become an Eagle Scout is making a brick pad for the school’s new flag poles. • Working with his father Steve D'Arco and Boy Scout Troop 912 Scout Leader John Forrest, he was very busy preparing the ground for the pad. Later in the day additional scouts came to assist him in his efforts. • According to Forrest, Dominic will be the troop’s 10th Eagle Scout, which is all about learn to plan and lead others. The project is planned to be completed in the very near future. • Dominic has been a scout with the troop for over six years. According to Forrest, “He has developed leadership skills by helping younger scouts learn skills so that they may move up through the scout ranks. Dominic has a great ability to communicate in front of a group as he has livened up our Court of Honors over the years.” Forrest added that Dominic has learned the importance of sticking with something that will follow him the rest of his life saying, “Dominic is a good example of an Eagle Scout.” •

  • Vernon Junior Police Academy - Vernon, N.J. - 08/19/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • Following graduation, the very first class of the Vernon Township Junior Police Academy joined with members of the police department for a group photograph. • Vernon police host first junior academy • VERNON — Last week 17 sixth and seventh grade students enthusiastically attended the very first Vernon Township Police Department’s Junior Police Academy. The five days of training, both physical and educational, concluded with the graduation ceremonies held at the Vernon PAL on Friday. • The cadets included 16 boys and one girl. According to Captain Daniel Young, who ran the academy, “The Vernon Police Department could not be more proud of the Junior Police recruits and their performance this week. Based on the feedback I have received from the parents and the recruits, this program has had a tremendous impact on them.” • In addition to members of the Vernon Police Department, additional training personnel included New Jersey State Police Troopers Joe Byra who is assigned to the Bomb Squad and Sergeant Melissa Brown and her K-9 police dog Dixon. In addition, the state police Aviation Unit landed its NorthSTAR Medevac helicopter at Maple Grange Park. • Also participating were the Vernon Township Fire Department and Ambulance Squad along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit. •
