  • Jefferson Township High School (Oak Ridge, New Jersey) defeated Newton High School (Newton, New Jersey) in girls varsity basketball on Saturday, March 7, 2020. The final score was 45-32. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) sectional tournament, Semifinal Round, North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 took place at Jefferson Township High School.  Ivana Tisma scored a game-high 18 points for Jefferson Township. Patricia Orlandoni scored 13 points. Deanna Torsiello scored 6 points. Olivia Demko scored 4 points. Leah Demko and Allyson Legora scored 2 points apiece. Jessie Brannick scored a team-high 12 points for Newton. Maddie Gore scored 9 points. Olivia Buckley scored 8 points. Taylor Squiers scored 3 points. Team records: Jefferson Falcons 23-6. Sparta tops Teaneck in the semifinal round

  • Sparta High School (Sussex County, New Jersey) defeated Teaneck High School (Bergen County, New Jersey) in boys varsity basketball on Friday, March 6, 2020. The final score was 46-39. The semifinal round of the North Jersey Section 1, Group 3 tournament took place at Sparta High School.  Aidan Mastandrea scored a game-high 16 points for Sparta. Mike Piwko scored 11 points. Dean Alkovic and Luke Szabo scored 7 points apiece. Colby Plotts scored 4 points and Rashir Scott scored 1 point. Hunter Toro scored a team-high 9 points for Teaneck. Elian Tejada scored 8 points. Damion Simpson Jr. scored 7 points. Kris Edwards scored 6 points. David Teeal scored 5 points. Desmond Burke scored 2 points. Kyle Perez and Xavier Washington scored 1 point apiece. Sparta advances to host second-seeded Ramapo in the sectional final on Monday, March 9, 2020. Lenape Valley Patriots lose to North Warren Patriots

  • North Warren Regional High School (Warren County, New Jersey) defeated Lenape Valley Regional High School (Sussex County, New Jersey) in girls varsity basketball on Friday, February 28, 2020. The final score was 67-47. The game took place at  Lenape Valley Regional High School. North Warren accomplished a commanding lead over Lenape Valley by the score of 44-14 by halftime. Tiffani Szkarlatiuk scored 15 points to lead North Warren's victory. Quincey McGuinness added 13 points. Clare Kelly Saalfield scored nine points. Brienna Pangborn scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Lenape Valley. Laney Kenny scored 16 points. This was the last regular season contest. Lenape Valley will not participate in the playoffs due to a losing record. But North Warren will go on to play in the varsity sectionals. Team records: Lenape Valley Patriots 7-20. North Warren Patriots 22-4.

  • Punxsutawney Phil may be right. In a rare occasion the groundhog emerged from his den this year and did not see his shadow, signifying early spring, according to folklore. So far, that’s been good news, especially for the children and their parents enjoying a mild February day in the new playground in Warwick’s Stanley-Deming Park.

Lenape Valley Patriots lose to Kittatinny Cougars on home court

  • Kittatinny Regional High School (Hampton Township, New Jersey) defeated Lenape Valley Regional High School (Stanhope, New Jersey) in boy's varsity basketball on Friday, February 21, 2020. The final score was 55-47. Lenape Valley Regional High School hosted the game. The Kittatinny Cougars and the Lenape Valley Patriots were locked in a 24-24 tie by halftime. But Kittatinny pulled ahead of Lenape Valley and maintained a slight lead through the second half. Brian Plath and Dylan Modafferi scored 19 points apiece for Kittatinny. Matt Russell and John Joe Mason scored 6 points apiece. Gabe Arias scored 3 points and Kevin Scymanski scored 2 points. Team records: Kittatinny Cougars 12-11. Lenape Valley Patriots 4-19.
