  • Rickey Farm Hosts Revelation Celebration Music Festival - Vernon, N.J. - 09/03/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • As with most of the events at Rickey Farm, hula-hoops are in abundance. In this case the Revelation Celebration Music Festival was no exception. • Spirituality and music go hand in hand • VERNON — On Saturday, the sound of music and the happy voices of children brought the fields below the Wawayanda escarpment to life at Rickey Farm. The free event brought hundreds of visitors to mix and mingle with various church groups such as the Sonrise Mountain Revival. • Later in the afternoon Eddy Miller of the Hamburg-based EaZy Bubbles was on hand to further excite the children. Farm animals, a bounce house, and pony rides were also available. • There are numerous events planned at the farm in the months to come.   • Sussex Elks Special Children Awareness Fundraiser - Wantage, N.J. - 09/03/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • Representing Creature Comfort Pet Therapy Sean Thorne of Belvidere brought his dog Raven to Sussex Elks Lodge #2288. Raven was but one a several therapy dogs who came to the fundraiser for special children. • Special children focus of fundraiser • WANTAGE — Sussex Elks Lodge #2288 hosted a successful fundraiser for special needs children on Saturday. In addition to numerous vendors and live bands, there was plenty of food for the hungry as well as several therapy dogs for people to enjoy. The event was coordinated by Carol Meister who is the chair of the Special Children’s Committee at the Sussex Elks Lodge. • Shannon Danz of West Milford also offered palm readings inside the lodge and outside the Ng family represented Virginia-based Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers, while hoping to also raise funds for their son Ethan who is badly in need for his own service dog. The cost of such dogs is usually in the $49K to $52K range for each dog. • The Sussex Elks Lodge is located at 153 County Route 565, Wantage and is available for rentals. One cub remained on top of the dumpsters while its siblings went dumpster diving. As all the locals know, Wednesday is garbage day in Barry Lakes, so these bruins arrived a bit early. •

  • Children's Day at the State Fair - Augusta, N.J. - 08/09/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • Every day is children’s day at the state fair, but when young girls and their families spot the Queen of the Fair posing board they have to stop and pose for a snapshot. • Every day is children’s day at the state fair • AUGUSTA — At The New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show every day is children’s day. But, on Tuesday, August 9, special programs and events for the kids made the day even more special. • Special presentations and activities were available including drum circles and games. The Sussex County Sheriff’s Department was there to offer free crayons and stick-on patches while the Sussex County YMCA offered the children the chance to make foil boats to float pennies in a tub of water. •

  • Mayor Harry Shortway Presents Every Age/Every Season - Augusta, N.J. - 08/08/2016 PHOTOS BY CHRIS WYMAN • Vernon Township Mayor Harry Shortway is shown during his presentation at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. • Mayor presents path for ‘Every Age, Every Season’• AUGUSTA — Working with the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, Vernon Township Mayor Harry Shortway and Michael Furrey, Chairman of the Greenway Action Advisory Committee for a Sustainable Vernon, offered a presentation at the Ernest M. Kosa County Building on Monday afternoon. The venue was the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. • The presentation described the township’s proposed Greenway System, called The Vernon Greenway. It presented our vision of a community-based project to build a recreational path that will span from Hardyston Township to Warwick, N.Y., which can be used year long. • The plans include a botanical garden, small-shop-type businesses along the path, a farmers’ market and more. The program’s motto is “Every Age, Every Season”. • The presentation included information about the Greenway Action Advisory Committee and its various subcommittees that include: Trail System/Open Space, Water and Wastewater Supply, Grant Applications and Funding, and Business Development. • The program’s mission statement is: “Sustainable Vernon was formed to promote and develop environmentally responsible amenities such as a trail system, parks, and gardens. The purpose is to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors and establish entrepreneurship leading to community sustainability. We are willing to review and advise about any environmental or economic issue that impacts the Township.” •

The group also endorses canine pet adoption through which they acquired their performing dogs. • The fair has begun and will continue through Sunday • AUGUSTA — The New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show is once again in full swing and will run through this Sunday, August 14. Thursday, August 11 is Seniors’ Day with special pricing for those who are 60 and older. As in the past, military personnel and veterans with proper ID are admitted free of charge to the fair. •
