  • Milford will never forget 911 The 911 Remembrance Ceremony at 11:00 AM at Pike County's Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Kishi Park Greg Protsko, Commander, VFW Post 8612 said the purpose of the 911 Remembrance Ceremony was "To honor and remember the men, women and children who were killed, wounded, injured and/or traumatized in the three-pronged attack on the USA by Muslim combatabts on Tuesday, the 11th of September, 2001." Protsko asked everyone to follow all Covid19 guidelines, especially wearing masks and social distancing. Dignitaries present included many area veterans; Brian Evichin, Director of Veteran Affairs in Pike County; Deputy Chris Colella; Sheriff Kerry Welsh; Deputy Ryan Fuller; American Legion Judge Advocate Thomas Kaylor; VFW Post 8612 Chaplain John Kupillas; VFW Post 8612 Commander Connie Harvey; Adjutant Frank Kalmbach; Gung Ho Detachment #909 of the US Marine Corps League: George Schmidt, Commandant Gary Brink, Tim Parson, Bugler Ray Patterson; Pike County Commissioner Steve Guccini; The Milford Fire Department: Captain Mike Bello, Lt. Andy Fortuin, Jake Peters and Eric Passaro. The salute to colors was provided by VFW post members. Everyone joined in saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The VFW Chaplain John Kupillas opened the ceremony with a prayer. Commander Gregory Protsko said we must never forget the sacrifices that were made. He said that the 911 attack, nineteen years ago on America, was just like the attack on Pearl Harbor. His address was heart felt. Taps and a salute to the colors was followed by a closing prayer. A red, white and blue remembrance wreath of carnations was presented.
