Stonewall a six year old resident at Space Farms Zoo and Museum came out to predict the upcoming weather for locals. Caught in one photo with eyes tightly closed, Stonewall was trying not to see his shadow so spring would come early.Eventually he did take a peek and seeing his shadow, predicted six more weeks of winter for the area.

The cold weather on saturday did not keep visitors away from the winter activities at High Point State park. Locals showed up to try their hand at snow shoeing, skiing, ice fishing, bird feeder snacks, toasting marshmellows and more. Friends of High Point State Park were on hand to give instruction as needed.Michael Bender of Stanhope and a volunteer explained the how to of ice fishing which can be a free, fun outdoor activity for all ages.

The Sparta Camer Club held their Expo XXVIII on Sunday at the Sparta ambulance building.Pam Cordts won Best in Show for her photo titles "Solitude". Cordts also recieved Image of the Year. The Expo was open to the public and willbe moved on wednesday to the second floor of the court house to be on display for the month of February.

Brandon Schmidt, 20, of Stockholm was the showstopper last Saturday at the TransWorld TransAM Snowboarding Competition held at Mountain Creek. Nearly every jump he took included a crowd-pleasing somersault. Schmidt is being sponsored by Launch Snowboards and is leaving for New Zealand later this week to take part in the Nitro Circus competitions.This year’s TransAM is the 11th of the series. There are eight stops in this year’s series and first place male and female riders automatically qualify to compete in the finals at Park City Mountain Resort in Utah and the first place qualifiers also win airfare to the finals.The names of the winners of Saturday’s event where not available at press time.
