  • The Lake Mohawk Country Club was the setting for a sunset gala cocktail reception to benefit the New Jersey Crime Victims' Law Center (NJCVLC). Nearly 150 guests were treated to music by Chris Arnold and his Jazz Band and a show by the Lake Mohawk Ski Hawks. While enjoying music and cocktails, attendees browsed the art auction and bid on the items on display. Richard Pompelio, who founded the NJCVLC with wife Ann in 1992 following the 1989 murder of their son, Tony. Copies of Pompelio's newly published book "Crime Victims' Rights", was available for each guest to take. Dorothy Moxley, whose daughter Martha's murder in 1975 went unsolved for 23 years until the investigation was reopened and Michael Skakel was arrested, was given the Endless Journey Award by Pompelio. "Dorothy did not give up and is a remarkable example for the rest of the world," said Pompelio of Moxley's determination in seeking justice for her daughter's case. The evening wrapped up with dessert, coffee and a vocal performance by Pope John students under the direction of Karen Scott.

  • Patiently waiting through the endless rains of summer the residents of Ogdensburg finally got their fireworks show Sunday night. Spectators started gathering on the hill beside the school in the gathering dusk to stake out a good viewing spot. The parking lots quickly filled up and latecomers could barely be seen groping their way along Main Street toward the field. The show, originally scheduled for Ogdensburg Day on June 20, lasted about 20 minutes.
