Local Pro Racer George Ryan of Vernon is shown airborne during Sunday’s professional racing circuit held at Mountain Creek. Ryan placed 7th in a field of the 55 racers in the men’s professional division. Last weekend the Mountain Creek Spring Classic brought in racers from as far away as New Zealand with hundreds of racers in the various competitions.

The First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team at Sparta Middle School competed in The Tiger’s Cup, FLL’s Qualifying Competition, on Saturday, December 1 at Lafayette Township School.
Sparta Middle School had four teams -- two grade 6 teams, one grade 7, and one grade 8 -- sparticipating in the all-day affair. The 2012 theme was Senior Solutions. Judges scored the teams in various events, such as Robot Design and Core Values, as the students presented their innovative ideas to solve problems that senior citizens experience in everyday life.
One of the Sparta Middle School 7th grade teams (The Magnificent Seven) won a trophy for achieving the highest score in the Robot Performance category.
