  • The 2nd graders in Joy Passannante's class have been studying about fossils and dinosaurs throughout the year. As a culmination of this the students each make a dinosaur out of whatever materials they would like to along with their families. It is a family project and one that is started at the beginning of the year and then in the end of May the dinosaurs begin to invade Fredon School. They come one by one some large and some small and are displayed at the Curriculum Fair. This year marks the 19th year for Joy Passannante to have dinosaurs in her classroom. Each child will pick a name for their dinosaur, tell what kind of dinosaur it is, where it lives, who is their enemies and any favorite or funny characteristic about it. There are many dinosaurs currently living in Fredon basements, family rooms, attics, garages and gardens. It is event to be scene!

  • The annual Fredon School Field Day was held on a sunny and warm day at Lodestar Park. This year's theme was "Let's Move". The theme was inspired by Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign, which is a nationwide campaign to rally this country around one singe but ambitious goal, and to end the epidemic of childhood obesity. Fredon School supported this campaign by educating the students to get up and move while they learn to make healthy choices about their own nutrition habits. The children and all of their teachers more many different colored t-shirts with the "Let's Move" logo on them. They began their day with chants they made up with their classmates, had a day filled with various activities, signed t-shirts, listened to music, and finished their day with a culminating activity of two dances on the football field to "The Cupid Shuffle" and "The Cotton-eyed Joe". It was a great day filled with team building, physical activity and lots of fun! Lisa Trusa the school gym teacher and Melany Mc Clary planned an awesome day for the entire school!

  • The 4th grade S.E.E.K. "Stimulate, Enrich, Enlighten, Kindle" Program led by Kerri Benson presented their Robotics Presentation on Thursday April 29th, 2010. This is the third year doing Robotics in the 4th Grade S.E.E.K. program. Kerri Benson is the 4th Grade S.E.E.K. teacher and the intermediate school S.E.E.K teacher Dawn Boyer, was a judge at the presentation/demo led by the students. The children used the Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 kit which is the latest technology and was purchased by the school in the Fall of 2009. The school Principal, Mrs. Darlene Markman, is a big supporter of this program and has provided the teachers and the children with a lot of help. The students can now construct robots that see, speak, feel and move. The kit included 32 bit microcomputer that acts as the brain of the robot, 619 pieces that included legos, connectors, gears, wheels, axles and wires. 3 interactive serva motors for the robots movement, 2 touch sensors, 1 color sensor and 1 ultrasonic sensor. The students built a humanoid type robot and named him ROBOB. Robob can walk forward, backward, turn talk and grab things. The students put together a slide show presentation and then presented Robob to the guests that included some teachers and their parents. The students that participated in the S.E.E.K. presentation were Brandon Bready, Anthony Esposito, Jillian Grassia, Jack Hickey, Christina Lavalette, Rachel Lehr, Steven McHugh, Tori Schwartz and Emma Valiate. • 40 years later, a new tile wall was completed at Fredon Elementary School titled "Faces of the Future". Following the completion of a new addition to the building in 1969, students participated in the creation of the tile wall that has been a part of the entrance to the Fredon School for over 40 years. Flash forward to 2010 and over 260 students added their self portraits to the new tile wall labeled "Faces of the Future". The students under the direction of Art Teacher, Beth Delaney, completed self-portraits during their Art classes. The self-portraits were scanned and printed on 6 inch tiles. The school's own Mr. Luke installed the tile wall across from the glass doors in the front of the building. The students used paint, crayon, colored pencils, and oil pastels to complete their self-portraits. The tile wall was a fund raiser sponsored by the Fredon Educational Foundation. The Fredon Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization which is raising money to help provide educational grants, scholarships and other programs to benefit the school.
