In order to raise community awareness about the tower heights for the proposed PSE&G Susquehanna-Roseland Reliability Project, two weather balloons were launched high above Andover Township throughout the day on Saturday, October 10. The weather balloons climbed to the heights of the proposed towers, one raised to 200 feet and the second at 195 feet.
The existing towers are 100 feet in height.
Motorists were alerted to the event by an electronic sign set up by Andover Township Police Department and many slowed down or stopped to stare as they were driving by, or while shopping or picking up breakfast or lunch at the Bagel Bistro.
Committeeman Mike Lensak, who has been involved on the township's behalf with the Coalition of Concerned Municipalities, set up the balloons along with Tom Hill and Dave Slaperud of Stop The Lines. The balloons were anchored to an informational table for Stop The Lines.
"A person needs to see the Stop The Lines Website for visual impact," said Lensak. He referred to photos renditions of what the new towers are anticipated to look like.
"People can't moan after they are already up," Lensak added. "This is the time to stop them."
"We are trying to make sure there is public awareness of just how obtrusive these lines will be," said Mayor Bob Smith. "I don't want to be surprised as were were by the JCP&L substation on Limecrest Road. We want to give people a chance to object.
